This was our local gathering to commemorate "our day" in "our year".  The day began in Baywood Park, CA ( which is located next to Los Osos ) which was suggested by one of our local enthusiasts, Billy Isbell.  It is his "back yard" which is normally always warm and clear this time of the year despite the fact that it is located right next to the Pacific Ocean.  

We gathered at the local coffee shop to take some photos and enjoy the local scenery and refreshments that Billy provided.  The coffee shop owner took some photos of us gathered in front of our cars which included : (left to right) Seth Ragona, Patty and Sara Singley, myself and Robynne (taking the photo), Billy Isbell and his daughter, Gabrielle.  We then made a quick stop at the service station to add some air to the tires and were off to Montana de Oro, a State Recreation Area located overlooking the ocean.
Prior to leaving for Montana de Oro we got to talk to a local resident who pulled up to talk while seeing our cars parked at the coffee shop.  It turns out that he used to work for a BMW repair shop in San Rafael in the early 1970's which serviced and sold 2002's.  He told us about how Jerry Garcia ( of Grateful Dead fame ) used to bring his tan colored 2002 in for repair.  He also told us about the singer of the New Riders of the Purple Sage also being a customer and of him buying 3 2002's after rolling them over.  He then went on to tell us how he then moved his employment to Mill Valley BMW.  He told us about a transporter arriving one day with a dozen new 2002's.  The owners decided that  Saturday night they would "partake in a few pints " and proceeded to then run across the roofs of ALL of the new 2002's.  After realizing that all of the roofs had been dented, a call was placed to the insurance company.  He was a colorful chap who was then off to try out his new kayak on the Bay.  It is always interesting to meet people who  had some association with the 2002 when they were new!
 
We may have been a small group, nonetheless this was our day to gather as many did across the country.  Click here to view the remainder of the pictures !
