5-Speed Conversion Testimonials
Below are testimonials and pictures of satisfied owners who have either
performed their own installations
or cars that we have converted here at our shop in San Luis Obispo, California.
Finally got my 5 speed kit installed. What a difference over my old 5 speed
kit. All of my problems with the poor shifting, hitting AC dash, and indirect
feel are gone. Best money I've spent on the car yet. Brought back the joy of
driving the Tii again.
Thanks,
Brian McHugh
Hi Rob
I received the parts that I ordered from you (they
look very nice) so this weekend I dropped the tranny and the diff out and
have all the Core parts packed up and ready to send off tomorrow. Could you
please send me the specs for the new length
of the drive shaft so I can proceed to have it machined this week.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Rob!
This is Les Baron. I bought a 5 spd. conversion kit from you a looonngg while
back and finally got around to getting it installed!
It worked great! I also rebuilt the motor and trans, and I believe your
conversion install was the easiest part of the entire transplant.
I'm really happy with the results. The local 02 club just took a 250 mile ride
last Sunday and the car performed great! No smoke from the newly rebuild
engine (did it myself with some "coaching" from a real mechanic). and the 5
spd really helped in the fuel mileage area.
I would recommend your kit to anyone. thanks again.

Hi Rob,
Feel free to add my comments. If you want I will take a photo of me
with the car. I have had this car for 20 years and it was pretty much my
first car at which time it was 10 and had 100K plus on it. It took a
beating through college and had a respectful restoration about 7 years ago
of which the last couple of years some decent peformance upgrades were
performed with the 5speed being latest. Today it serves a fair weather
daily driver basically avoiding known rain/snow/salt conditions. Of
course this silly car has gotten me stuck on BMW's and our latest addition
(my wifes car) is an 87 M6 with 40,000 miles on it. It is nice, but I still
prefer tossing the old 02 around.
Later,
Alan
HI Rob,
Attached are some photos of the old 76 02. Thanks again for
excellent quality parts. I now that over the years I have an assortment
of parts in the car from your shop in the car today.

Rob:
I preface by saying great job. It was extremely
easy to install, almost easier than advertised, so I have to say that this
is truly an example of "underpromising and overdelivering". Having the
pieces preassembled upon delivery is great, especially for typical guys that
work better from visuals. The quality of the parts is very good from the
cad. plating to the powder coating all the way to the fasteners. Great job
with the details on the custom bracket as well. I have officially tested
the car since installation on a recent 600 mile trip and the kit worked
great! Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing you at the
2002 Fest West.

hi rob, i had a 5-speed o/d transmission installed on my '72 2002 last
fall using your 5-speed kit. i was very impressed by the thoroughly engineered
design and the quality and rugged construction of the kit. installation
presented no problems as have 6300 miles of driving.
the 5-speed along with a 3.92 lsd have really enhanced my car. combined there
are by far the best upgrade Iv'e made. i recommend them, and your kit, to all
2002 owners.
sincerely,

Hi Rob:
I am pleased to inform you that the 5 speed conversion was a success! I want to
thank you for developing this concept and for the quality of the parts produced.
The bolt on do-it-yourself kit is definitely the way to go for us suffering from
AMI, or automotive mechanical impairment.
A couple of issues where you might be able to shed some light...
1. I notice a significant difference in acceleration. It seems that now I need
more gas in order to increase speed. Are the 5 speed tranny ratios causing this?
It could also be that I haven't driven the car for a significant amount of time,
and in the meantime I've been driving a '72tii and a 270 hp Acura. I don't know,
it's just a general observation to see if you recognize this as normal.
Answer: The difference you feel could be the
difference in HP that you mentioned as well as the
difference between the stock differential (3.64) in your car vs. a different
ratio in the Tii.
2. I notice a barely noticeable "tapping" noise coming from under the car when
it's rolling, as if the guibo bolts were coming in contact with something. I got
under the car and everything seems to have more than adequate clearance. Can you
think of any other possibilities?
Answer: A closer inspection is needed to see what if
anything is coming in contact. There are 2
different 3-hole output flanges that will fit the transmission and if for some
reason the shorter one
has been used the bolt heads may be contacting the transmission case.
As I said, I am very pleased with the end result. It's nice to be able to listen
to the radio and her other "noises" for a change, and not the engine rev's.
Regarding my "new" tii, I am in need of finding a driver's seat similar to the
passenger's in the enclosed pic in good condition. If you happen to have one, or
know anybody that might have one for sale, please let me know.
I haven't had a chance to sort out things with the tii, but I will be calling
you to do a "long distance" adjutment of the fule mix. Take care, and thanks
again.
Robert

I knew from the moment I opened the box that using the 2002 Haus kit was
going to be a good experience. All of the parts were neatly finished; every bolt
was slipped into place. There was no fussy trial-and-error fitting, no careful
measurements. I simply bolted everything together, just as though I were
re-installing my four-speed.
In short, that seems to be the biggest benefit to the 2002 Haus kit. It takes
what has been a complex, involved conversion and makes it really no more
difficult than a clutch job on a stock ’02.
And the results? Well, after a road trip of more than 1,000 miles across the
Appalachians and back, I couldn’t be happier. Even considering the climb over
the mountains, I averaged about 30 mpg with my single-barrel Solex.
I’d recommend the 2002 Haus kit to anyone with a 4-speed ’02 who wanted to
make the conversion. I don’t honestly know why anyone, having tried this kit,
would choose to use any other. It’s just that good.

hi rob
the kit you supplied is of a superior quality, and
probably would have sold well if 02,s were still being manufactured by BMWs.

Hi Rob,
I received your
kit last week....Excellent.
Absolutely
superb!!
Installed without
a hitch...and the shift action feels great. This is truly a work of art and
well worth the cost... I've still got a
long road ahead of me getting the rest of the car sorted out, though...
Thanks again...

David

I had finally made the decision to have the suspension redone and to replace
the 4 speed with a 5 speed in my 73 tii. This was a job that I wanted done by
someone who knew 2002s.....I don't mean someone who now works on mainly newer 3,
5, and 7 series. Someone who is passionate about and KNOWS 02s.
The choice for me was easy. I had chatted with Rob Torres occasionally during
my visits to several 2002 festivals that he and 2002Haus have sponsored over the
years. It was obvious to me that my tii would be in very good hands while at
2002haus.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Luis Obispo is a 4 hour drive.
Once you arrive with the car, Rob takes the time to put your car on his rack and
explains exactly what your car will need, and how he will do the job. When the
day comes for you to pick up the car, it is on the rack for you to see what has
been done, all work being carefully explained, all questions answered.
The before and after difference in the handling because of the new suspension
(all stock parts) and the way the car drives with the "new" 5 speed is night and
day. Did I tell you he is extremely picky over which tranny he buys for you and
installs it in his personal 320 to drive around to make sure it shifts correctly
and all the syncros work?
Even my wife now likes to drive my tii.

I recently installed an E21 five speed
(G245/4) using Rob's complete kit.
The fit and finish of the supplied parts is
outstanding. A participant at the Hermann, MO MidAm 02 Fest described them
as
"elegant" and I certainly concur. The shifter is tight, stable, and makes my tii
feel like a new car.
I have enjoyed working with Rob, he is a true 02
enthusiast and is always willing to answer my many questions.
Sincerely,
Bo Black

I buy alot from rob. He always helps me out when I have
a question
but I'm also a paying customer. I was lookin for a true 5spd kit. Not
one that I drill holes in and put mounts in from the other side... or
run
rails or have to get out a straight edge and shim this or align that...
all of the crap (the PITA, eats 3 gubios, 4 weekends of
wrenching to final adjust factor) involved with a 5spd install has been
removed.... sure you could do it for $50 with some angle iron, a chop
saw and a welder or you can pony up and get that kit... 5spd install
could easily be a couple hours deal and it looks almost factory. That's
what I dig.. no home made lookin components.. no alignment
issues.. no custom bracketry... it all bolts up (he even includes a bolt
kit that has everything you need to do that) Silly stuff like the speedo
cable clearance has already been factored in.. I thought it was the
most well thought out kit that was a true "bolt in" kit... Uses the
stock
mounts and other than the small clearancing for the slave cylinder..
which everyone has to do... the parts are powdercoated and the
welding is beefy...

Having done this once before I, after looking at Rob's
kit I would say it is a bargain. Will save lots of time.
